🌍 Global Icons & American Star: Players to Watch in the UWCL Final
The 2025 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final is set to showcase world-class talent when Arsenal meet Barcelona in Lisbon on May 24 — and American fans have more than one reason to tune in.
🇪🇸 Aitana Bonmatí (Barcelona) — The reigning queen of world football, Aitana is no stranger to the big stage. Already a two-time Player of the Match in UWCL finals, she’s Barcelona’s heartbeat — creative, composed, and deadly. With goals, assists, and influence all over the pitch, she’s a must-watch.
🇳🇴 Caroline Graham Hansen (Barcelona) — The Norwegian winger is electric. With unmatched pace and precision, she has been key to all three of Barça’s Champions League titles. Her dynamic partnership with striker Ewa Pajor makes her one of the most feared wide players in Europe.
🇺🇸 Emily Fox (Arsenal) — Enter the American factor. The U.S. international right-back has made a huge impact since joining Arsenal, playing a crucial role in their journey to Lisbon. A 2024 Olympic gold medallist, Fox could join a legendary list of Americans to lift the UWCL — names like Alex Morgan, Ali Krieger, and Catarina Macario.
🏴 Kim Little (Arsenal) — The veteran captain is the heart of Arsenal’s midfield. In her 13th UEFA season, she’s finally in a second final, 19 years after her European debut. Her experience, vision, and leadership — especially alongside former Barça star Mariona Caldentey — will be vital.

🌍 Squad Drops: Nations League Selections Signal Final Countdown to UEFA Women’s EURO 2025
🏴 Race to EURO 2025 Heats Up: England Names Squad for Decisive Nations League Matches — England has named a 27-player squad for their upcoming UEFA Women’s Nations League matches against Portugal (May 30, Wembley) and Spain (June 3, RCDE Stadium, Barcelona). Currently second in their group, England needs wins in both fixtures to reach the knockout stage.
The squad features the returns of key players Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, and Lauren Hemp, all coming back from injury setbacks this season. Tottenham’s Ella Morris earns her first senior call-up after impressive performances with the U23s and her club.
While Lauren James misses out due to a hamstring injury, the coaching staff remain hopeful she can recover in time for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. Manager Sarina Wiegman has kept the squad large to assess players ahead of final EURO selections, emphasizing the importance of these Nations League games as opportunities for players to prove themselves on the international stage.
🇸🇪 Sweden Includes Rising Stars Schröder and Wangerheim in Nations League Squad — Sweden's head coach Peter Gerhardsson has named a 26-player squad for the UEFA Women’s Nations League games against Italy and Norway, featuring young talents Felicia Schröder (BK Häcken) and Ellen Wangerheim (Hammarby). Smilla Holmberg (Hammarby) also joins the squad for the first time, while Arsenal’s Rosa Kafaji returns despite limited club minutes.
The team blends experienced players with newcomers, providing key opportunities ahead of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. Veteran Elin Rubensson is missing due to injury.
🇪🇸 Redondo Returns, Hermoso Omitted Again — Spain's head coach, Montse Tomé, has named a 25-player squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Belgium and England. Notably, forward Alba Redondo returns to the national team after a strong season with Real Madrid, where she became the club's top scorer with 20 goals in 43 matches.
However, veteran forward Jenni Hermoso and goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez have been left out once again, marking Hermoso's fourth consecutive omission. Tomé emphasized the competitive nature of the selection process, stating that the door remains open for all players ahead of the final Euro 2025 squad announcement.

👑 Ballon d’Or 2025: Finally Bringing Women’s Football Awards Into Full Equality
In a move that could be described as “better late than never,” the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony is finally taking meaningful steps to put women’s football on equal footing with men’s. For the first time, the awards will feature women’s versions of the Kopa Trophy (best young player), Yashin Trophy (best goalkeeper), and Gerd Müller Trophy (top scorer)—categories that previously existed only for men.
The ceremony, set for September 22 at Paris’s Théâtre du Châtelet, also avoids conflicting with women’s international fixtures, addressing past scheduling issues that overlooked the women’s game.
This expanded recognition marks an important shift towards true equality in football’s most prestigious individual awards, acknowledging women’s growing prominence in the sport.
Nominees will be announced in early August, ahead of the global vote by journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries.
